In my upcoming exhibition, 91.44—SONGS OF A CEILING FAN, I continue to reimagine the itinerant OWU (thread) hair salon and the roving barbershop. I term these trades “evacuated spaces” because they are either rarely or no longer practiced now. Although the late 90s and 2000s flooded in with their ever-nimble trends, these evacuated spaces often seem unfillable. Perhaps we occasionally try to fill them with feeble nostalgias.
